{"id":342,"date":"2015-08-31T20:24:33","date_gmt":"2015-08-31T20:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mtin.net\/blog\/?p=342"},"modified":"2015-08-31T20:24:33","modified_gmt":"2015-08-31T20:24:33","slug":"change-to-h-root-servers-net","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mtin.net\/blog\/change-to-h-root-servers-net\/","title":{"rendered":"Change to H.ROOT-SERVERS.NET"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Posted to NANOG<br \/>\nThis is advance notice that there is a scheduled change to the IP addresses<br \/>\nfor one of the authorities listed for the DNS root zone and the .ARPA TLD.<br \/>\nThe change is to H.ROOT-SERVERS.NET, which is administered by the U.S. Army<br \/>\nResearch Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>The new IPv4 address for this authority is 198.97.190.53.<\/p>\n<p>The new IPv6 address for the authority is 2001:500:1::53.<\/p>\n<p>This change is anticipated to be implemented in the root zone on 1 December<br \/>\n2015, however the new addresses are operational now. They will replace the<br \/>\nprevious IP addresses of 128.63.2.53 and 2001:500:1::803f:235 (also<br \/>\npreviously known as AOS.BRL.MIL and AOS.ARL.ARMY.MIL).<\/p>\n<p>We encourage operators of DNS infrastructure to update any references to the<br \/>\nold IP addresses and replace them with the new addresses. In particular,<br \/>\nmany DNS resolvers have a DNS root &#8220;hints&#8221; file. This should be updated with<br \/>\nthe new IP addresses.<\/p>\n<p>New hints files will be available at the following URLs once the change has<br \/>\nbeen formally executed on December 1:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.internic.net\/domain\/named.root<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.internic.net\/domain\/named.cache<\/p>\n<p>The old IPv4 address will continue to work for six months after the<br \/>\ntransition (until 1 June 2016), at which point it will be retired from<br \/>\nservice. The address will remain under the control of the Army Research<br \/>\nLaboratory, never to be used again for DNS service.
