The FCC said Friday (pdf) that it wants to remove barriers to flexible use of the mobile satellite service (MSS) bands for terrestrial mobile wireless service. The new rules would apply to S-band MSS frequencies around 2GHz. The rules will mainly affect the licenses held by Craig McCaw’s ICO and TerreStar.

65 Mile PtP shot

When Dewayne Hendricks posted a brief note on Facebook that he had achieved 30 Mbps out of a 65 mile PtP link, I had to call and learn how he did it. The answer is Ubiquiti’s latest Rocket product, the successor to the NanoStation, which in itself was extremely innovative.

AirCrack-ng1.1 Released

Aircrack is a utility which does packet sniffing, WEP/WPA cracking, and other goodies on a wireless network.

A lot of bug fixes (including the buffer overflow in different tools) and improvements have been done. The most noticeable changes are the addition of airdrop-ng by TheX1le and the interaction in airodump-ng.

The Indiana Dept. of Transportation has deployed a statewide wireless Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) incorporating many different components – from speed and weather sensors, to dynamic messaging signs, to video surveillance cameras.

Towers have been popping up all along the major interstates. Will take some pictures.
